Clearing snow and ice from your drive is one of the best ways to prevent slips and falls in winter, and help to avoid injuries such as broken bones or sprains. It is easiest to move the snow while it is fresh before people have walked or driven on it. Removing snow early in the day will also allow any weak winter sunshine to thaw ice underneath before the temperatures start to drop again in the evening. Salt, spread on the cleared areas, can prevent refreezing – ordinary table salt or dishwasher salt will both work well.
When you are moving the snow, take care that you don’t cover up any drains, as this could lead to flooding when the snow starts to melt, and don’t block other people’s paths.
